Back at work today after a lovely 3 weeks off much of which was spent working on Merganser with a few nice sails in assorted other vessels, the big news is that we’ve decided to go with the extra work involved in putting a vberth in the bow, the last picture is similar to what I have in mind, this involves moving the front bulkhead about 3ft back, getting rid of the nasty non waterproof roof hatch and fitting a spiffy new one further forward, the fresh and grey water tanks will be under the bed, much more convenient! The heads are moving to what was the quarter berth, going to be cramped but much more suitable to hide away the black water tank and batteries. We do loose some seating but I think overall for cruising as a couple this is the right choice. So work completed… The bow core was completely ruined, for some reason steel support beams were glassed in which rusted away to nothing so 18mm ply is going in to support the new windlass and hatch, the anchor locker is being redesigned as the windlass needs to sit a few inches further back and thru hull drains are being fitted, seacocks being replaced with composite ones to support the new plumbing for the waste tanks, lots of hole patching and filling has been done to try and seal the deck up, and the new gas locker has been completed and is awaiting final assembly and glassing into the hull… All in all a busy and very productive few weeks!
